Dear, Mr. Metcalf- STOP TALKING!

There is an old saying:

When you find yourself at the bottom of a hole, the first thing to do is STOP DIGGING.

Dick Metcalf really needs to get that saying set as his screen saver.  That way, before he starts typing he gets a good reminder to 'never miss an opportunity to shut up.'

Background- the last issue of Guns and Ammo (G&A) had a back page editorial where Mr. Metcalf took a page from the Brady Campaign and said that the 2nd Amendment (2ndA) had wording in it that allowed for Govt restrictions to the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (RKBA).  He ignored lots of readings, rulings, and scholarship on the 2ndA that clearly said "Nuh-Uh", then went to back up his ramblings with "I taught this stuff once," and "but we regulate cars..."  His idiocy got picked up by gun control zealots, and used against the RKBA

Anyway- he got himself "Recoil-ed" and "Zumbo-ed."  He and the Editor of G&A got fired.

Mr. Metcalf, instead of taking a clue from Jim Zumbo, and go on a public "mea culpa" tour, and rehab his image....  Well, he decided to "Step on his Metcalf" again and show that not only does he not understand the 2ndA, but also shows a startling lack of knowledge on the FIRST Amendment!

 Dick... if I may call you 'Dick'... Here is the thing- You have the freedom of speech.  So do I.  When you wrote your (last) column, you were free to do so.

When I, as a long time customer, requested that G&A (Intermedia Outdoors) take you to the woodshed and spank you like a red-headed stepchild,  I was free to do that as well. 

However, since YOU are a negative on the balance sheet (overhead), and I am a positive (revenue) AND I was joined by a whole bunch of others from the revenue column....  you got canned. 

Freedom of speech does not mean you have freedom from the repercussions.  You (hopefully inadvertently) aided and abetted to enemy.  Make no mistake, the anti-RKBA forces are the enemy, and as Michael Bane states so eloquently:

...people who would happily load us into boxcars and send us east! We need to say no to the people who destroy our heritage, spit on the Constitution and unleash their thugs.

 Now, PLEASE stop talking.  Step away from the keyboard.  Go take that 16 hour class (to carry a gun) that you are so happy to have in Illinois,  do some introspection and navel-gazing.  Think if you want to come back to The People of The Gun and work toward more freedom, or if you want to polish your FOID-colored chains and continue down the path to bondage.

Us -vs- Them

I know that there are billions of pixels killed on the internet over the whole "us -vs- them" mindset of Government (including Law Enforcement) versus the Citizens.  Especially when we have the whole episode of the Watertown Ghetto earlier this week where all sorts of law enforcement and Military locked down a whole city and violated everyone's rights to try and hunt down a bomber. 

People were imprisoned in their homes, held at gunpoint, forcibly searched, had their right to free travel restricted, and were generally treated like cattle. 

Rule 2: Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy.

We have a nice little example of this pop up here this morning.

Let me give you some backstory: 
-Last weekend, the Travis County District Attorney, Rosemary Lehmberg, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated while having an open bottle of vodka on the front seat.  
-She says she wont resign, that there is no conflict of interest since her office does not prosecute first time DWI Offenders
-Lehmberg tries to plead guilty and get this adjudicated and gone ASAP, before charges are even filed, leading LOTS of people to speculate she was trying to cover something up.
-DA goes to jail.  "...by taking the a longer sentence, she avoided probation, as well as the conditions of probation, which may have included no alcoholic beverages"
-Dashcam video is released!  As suspected, there was more to the story.  She was combative with officers, tried to use her position to get preferential treatment, put in restraints, leg irons, and a spit/ bite hood.

Now here is what blew my mind this morning.  The Austin Police Association (Union) called for Lehmberg to step down.  Not for breaking the law... not for endangering the very citizens and society they are sworn to protect... but for "the way Lehmberg treated the Sheriff's Deputy's who arrested her, saying it reflects a lack of respect for officers."  Unbelievable.  Totally an "Us -vs- Them" mindset.  The police union did not care about the law, just the treatment of the officers.

We need to end that attitude.  Cops and LEOs are citizens.  They are supposed to be US.  They need to look at anyone they are dealing with and see themselves.  There is no 'thin blue line'- there are just citizens that are entrusted by society to enforce our laws.  

BY THE WAY- the officer in the dashcam video (linked above) needs a medal, a promotion and a raise.  When he found out it was the highest law enforcer in the county that was being arrested, he said (paraphrasing) 'Treat it like you would any one else'.  THAT is a good Law Enforcement Officer, and someone doing the right thing even when it could be his political downfall.  It's what all LEOs should strive for, in my opinion.

Why in the HELL is the LBGT community fighting for more Government regulations in their lives?

Marriage is a Religious ceremony.

Why is Government regulating and blessing religious ceremonies in the first place? Why do we pay a tax and ask for permission to get married?  Don't the liberals believe we have a 'separation of church and state?' (I know we don't- that's not in our Constitution*.) 

Why is the LBGT community fighting for more Govt regulation of the relationship? Want survivorship rights- Write a will. Want Benefits? That's between you and your employer. Want to make medical decisions for your partner? Medical Power of Attorney. Want higher taxes and meddling busybodies in your life? Go to Government.

Government involvement has never made anything better in a situation like this.  The correct solution would be taking it to the Supreme Court saying that Govt blessing, taxing and regulating a church ceremony is unconstitutional.  Remove the regulations and tax burden associated with marriage.  Leave it to the private citizens to take control of their lives, get the Government out of the Church, and let the free market decide if companies offering benefits to "whatever" is a viable solution.

Default to freedom.  Less Government is always the answer.

*here is what we have:  "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;"  Marriage is the free exercise of religion.  Congress shall make no law.  So... piss off.  There is no reason for Government to be involved in this in any way.

Last week, that asshat Biden opened his mouth and said that an AR-15 was too hard to operate, and we should get a shotgun.

Now we are getting news reports that Biden might have something going on.  Confused?  Here, let me explain:

23 Executive Actions from Obama

So, our Speech-maker in chief has come out with his 'plan' on 'gun violence.'  23 actions that will do nothing to solve any problem, but may create more problems for the Govt to solve!

1. Issue a presidential memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system
How will this help?
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
In other words, force doctors to report confidential health info to the Government for tracking.  Wife having bad PMS that makes her angry?  The Govt wants to know.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
Do those incentives come from the barrel of a gun, or are they handing out more of the money we don't have?
4. Direct the attorney general to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
Will he add a category for  people who knowingly give guns to mexican drug cartels?  Probably not, because we would have to disarm the BATFE
5. Propose rule-making to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
Depriving people of property without due process of law?  
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
They know how.  This is just bullshit busywork.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
We have one of those.  It's called the NRA.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes
Great, I need more useless cable locks lying around my house.
9. Issue a presidential memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
Why?  When the cops recover a jammed Lorcin with no serial number next to the body of Sumdood, it's pretty safe to say it's stolen. 
10. Release a Department of Justice report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
Again- Why?  What will that do to end violence?
11. Nominate a new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
'Bout time.  While you are at it, why not pass a budget?
12. Provide law enforcement, first-responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
 You mean, they have not had that?  Seems like that is a fail on your part that it takes 26 dead in a school to get the training out there.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
Not violent crime- GUN crime.  In other words, more hammering FFLs for paperwork errors, arresting CHL holders for accidentally crossing magical gun free force-fields,  and ruining peoples lives for bad measurements.
14. Issue a presidential memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
How about just violence?  It does not matter if Mortimer bashes in his ex-wifes head with a hammer, just as long as he don't just up and shoot her.
15. Direct the attorney general to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun-safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
Invest in vaporware?   No.  As soon as they make an ATM as reliable as a Kalashnikov, I'll think about putting an ATM in my Kalashnikov. 
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors from asking their patients about guns in their homes.
And I can still reply by asking the Doc how much money is in his bank account.  Damn right that's none of EITHER of our business. 
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
Again- They Know.  Another example of 'what you do instead of something'
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school-resource officers.
Wasn't the NRA made fun of for suggesting this?
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
 How about let the good guys carry there?  When the shooting starts it will be good to know that the cops will have a plan when they get there in 10-20 minutes, in the mean time, let the good guys shoot back
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
Finally!  They realized that the problem is caused by a lack of funding for a bloated inefficient government bureaucracy 
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
ObamaCare will save us!
22. Commit to finalizing mental-health parity regulations.

23. Launch a national dialogue led by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Education Secretary Arne Duncan on mental health.

Before 12:30 p.m. Saturday a gunman entered St. Stephen’s in the 1500 block of Newton Street, demanded money from the victim and ordered the victim to the ground, police said. The gunman went through the victim’s pockets, taking personal property including cash, a wallet and an iPhone.

Remember this when anyone asks why you would need a gun in church.  Because  criminals don't obey magical force fields.

So, the Dept of inJustice has struck down Texas' Voter ID law.  The ACLU, the DOiJ and news organizations are just ecstatic because:

"Hispanic voters are more likely to lack the necessary documentation to vote"

Oh. My. God.  Just imagine if someone OTHER than the ACLU said that "Hispanics don't carry ID".

I shake my head at the double standards.

However, we now have the DOiJ on record saying that it is illegal to deny a constitutional right if you don't have ID.  Does that mean I can go into the local Gun Emporium and buy a gun with no identification?
