Rossi Ranch Hand Gun Porn!

So, yesterday, while I was sick as a dog, I went to the local gunshow with Mi2Tall. At the sixth table in, there is a Rossi Ranch Hand sitting on the table. I did not bring any money, and was not planning on buying anything since I JUST got the Saiga. Just with passing interest, I asked the guy what caliber it was in. I have posted before about how the .357 seems to be complete vaporware...

Well, he says that it is .357 Magnum.

Holy crap! I text the wife quickly, to confirm we had the cash in the account. Though some miscommunication (totally on my part), I almost don't get across that "This is the gun that you spent a month and a half trying to get for me for my birthday, and now I see one right in front of me!"

I get clearance, and buy the damn thing. While I was filling out the paperwork, two people try to buy it from the dealer. Also, oddly enough, even though I had a CHL, the dealer called the FBI and asked 'mommy-may-I' from the Govt. Strange.

Anyway, here are the pics!

I have not shot it yet, but I plan to probably Tuesday during lunch. Initial impressions are favorable. It is not as ungainly as it seems, and it pretty easy to tote around. I hooked up a 'tactical' one point bungie sling to it, and it is actually pretty easy to move around with. That would probably be the way I will carry it when woodsbumming.

Oh, and of course, for penance for getting another gun off my short list- I lose my voice. So, I finally get this cool, geeky, and pretty much impractical gun- and I can't talk to anyone about it.

Zombie Apocalypse Preparation

From the CDC, of all places.

I see a few things missing from the list. A long range firearm, and a close range weapon. And remember- Blades Don't Need Reloading.

Hat Tip to Say Uncle

This made me laugh

A book!

If you have not received your autographed copy of "Hard Magic", it's because Larry Correia likes me better than you

Let the feast begin!

The first harvest from the gardens! Sound the horns, the harvest feast begins!

To tell you the truth, though, that one little cherry tomato was pretty tasty... even though we split it 3 ways.

I Wish They Made

Dan Johnson (the Gun 'Riter) has a blog post asking for 'wish lists' for the gun industry:

I Wish They Made...

Lots of good ideas, including lots of love for one of my favorite little commie rounds, the 7.62x25.

BTW, if anyone has an action from one of the old Spanish 'Destroyer' carbines so I can build a little bolt action 7.62x25 carbine, let me know.

Finally got to the range!

Finally had a couple of spare hours, and decided to take the new Saiga to the range.

I had to shoot indoors due to:
a) the rain
b) it is an hour drive to the nearest outdoor range

So, since it's indoor, and the targets get close at long range... they don't let shotguns shoot anything other than slugs. Since I needed to function test and make sure it worked at all, I had to run a sizable amount of slugs through it.

Fifteen Rounds of slugs. I decided I would make sure the AR still hit where I wanted it to after installing the Noveske Fire Breathing Pig flash hider.
It did. Yes, this thing looks hideous, but it works. Even with the normally HUGE fireball from Wolf steel case ammo, there was NO noticeable flash from the Pig.

So I turn my attention to the task at hand:

You ever get that feeling, "This is going to hurt..."?

I was expecting to have a MASSIVE flinch in short order.

So I pump off the first 5 rounds with the target at 25 yards

Hey, that was not too bad! Then I look at the target. No hits.

I fire the next mag aiming high on the target, and get a hit near the bottom of the target. I get two hits to the left bottom, touching. I walk two more hits aiming way off the paper.

So I crank on the adjustable bead.... the wrong way, and the damn thing comes off. I am sitting there in the booth and trying to reassemble the damn thing. It needs 3 hands to do so. So I finally get it back together (with the adjusting wheel upside down to disable the click stops), crank it all the way down, and fire a mag aiming at the center of the target and get 4 hits nicely clustered about a foot low

After screwing with the sight like that and seeing how cheesy it is... This thing is getting a Red Dot.

Well, it works. Not one failure. Now comes the conversion!
